On a barren stage with only a trunk of costumes, Harriet Tubman’s true-life story of birth into slavery, escape to freedom, compelling heroism with the Underground Railroad and her courageous fight to end slavery is brought vividly to life. The remarkable talent of the play’s writer and performer Leslie McCurdy mesmerizes audiences.
This critically acclaimed, must-see performance was a finalist for the 1999 National Canadian Chalmers Award for “Best New Play for Young Audiences.” The Spirit of Harriet Tubman is an inspirational look at the power of the spirit and the will to overcome tremendous odds for the ultimate reward: freedom.
