Children discover a familiar game is really an age-old Inuit tradition played around the world. Karyn Gagnon, certified presenter of Traditional Indigenous Games of North America, leads children through a fun craft to create their own bilboquet, a ring and pin or ball in cup game known as Ajagak in Inuit culture.
After, kids learn about the artefacts of the North, including snowshoes, mukluks made of seal or caribou and fur-trimmed parkas.

Métis Buffalo Hunt

Become an honorary Métis hunter on the open plains! Gather with others from around the region to be a part of the single most important event in Métis society: the great buffalo hunt. In this exciting and educational activity, kids learn the importance and significance of the buffalo in Métis culture — including the respect the Métis have for these majestic animals.
After, children celebrate the great hunt with a fun Red River jig! Participants will also copy a traditional pemmican recipe onto a pemmican bag and then decorate it with beads.

Chasse au bison Métis
Devenez un chasseur Métis honorifique sur les vastes plaines! Joignez d’autres personnes de votre région pour participer à l’événement le plus important au sein de la société métisse : la grande chasse au bison. Dans le cadre de cette activité excitante et éducative, les enfants apprendront l’importance et la signification du bison pour la culture métisse et surtout le respect que ces derniers démontrent pour cet animal majestueux. Ensuite, les enfants célébreront la grande chasse avec la gigue de la rivière Rouge. De plus, les participants copieront une recette de pemmican traditionnelle sur un sac de pemmican qu’ils décoreront ensuite avec des perles colorées.

Travel back in time 100 years in this hands-on historic activity! Children have the opportunity to experience life as a Ukrainian immigrant as they get to flail, winnow and grind grain into flour. Interpretive storytelling helps kids understand grain’s importance in history and today! Participants also have the chance to make a didukh (a traditional sheaf of wheat) to take home.

Voyagez dans le temps, 100 ans en arrière, pour vraiment vivre cette activité historique! Almost magically, the individual pieces come together to create a finished mural know as the Pubble People!

After the show, all participants will make postcards to send to family and friends, encouraging them to become more environmentally friendly.

Take a tent full of kids, add master percussionist Bob Fenske and watch as a kid-powered orchestra comes to life! Taking lessons from Bob in basic rhythm, dance and song, kids discover traditional, exotic and unconventional percussion instruments from around the world before trying their hands at the assortment of percussion instruments — even milk cartons! No two performances are the same!

Profiles Public Art Gallery invites you to use your artistic skills to see, think and create beyond the frame. For hands-on fun, contribute to a large collaborative project and create your own artworks!

A picture is worth a thousand words — or in this case, a thousand smiles! Join us at the Musée Heritage Museum for some fast-paced, hands-on fun with old photographs. The photo finish game encourages children to work together using picture clues to gather information to solve puzzles. Teams will need to pay attention to detail and use their powers of observation to complete each task quickly and correctly.
Every child will have the opportunity to create a sun print (cyanotype) picture to take home.

S’amuser avec les photos
Venez vous amuser avec nous au Musée Héritage pour un jeu de rapidité ou vous devrez mettre la main à la pâte en utilisant de vieilles photos. Le jeu de finition de photo encourage les enfants à travailler ensemble, utilisant les indices sur les photos pour recueillir de l’information pour les aider à résoudre le casse-tête.
