The Métis’ contribution and historical significance to the Canadian fur trade is honoured in the traditional woven sash. Watch a skilled Métis weaver create an exquisite sash during an engaging loom-weaving demonstration. Then try your hand at braiding a colourful yarn bookmark as you explore the sash’s history and cultural relevance.

Take a journey back 100 years to experience life as a Ukrainian immigrant in Alberta. The challenges pioneers faced are illustrated in interpretive storytelling and hands-on historic activities like planting grain, building sheaves, and grinding wheat into flour. As a reminder of the cultural importance of grain to these early immigrants, build a “didukh”, a symbolic bundle of wheat, to take home.
The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is an award-winning, living history museum that provides visitors an interactive learning experience in an authentic historical setting. The Village depicts a pre-1930 settlement in east central Alberta from the predominantly Ukrainian perspective.

His demonstration of percussion instruments from around the world, with strange, exotic names and unique sounds is a one-of-a-kind experience.

This hilarious duo delivers non-stop fun with freestyle comedy routines and circus-like feats as they reveal the tricks-of-the-trade at their rousing juggling, plate spinning and diabolo activity. Enhance coordination by juggling, improve concentration with plate spinning, and fine-tune balance and timing as you master the diabolo (a Chinese yo-yo).

Explore papermaking as you create your own distinctive hand-made paper using recycled materials, metallic bits and cotton fibre along with plant and botanical fibres. Learn a bit about the larger commercial process and its effect on the environment as you participate in this fascinating activity. The finished product you take home makes a unique special occasion card.

Join Profiles Public Art Gallery and be part of the sculpting team constructing the magnificent, monumental, medieval Castle of St. Albert, a creative vision of a 2008-style Camelot. This unique clay sculpture evolves and grows daily as children add new clay creations, such as animals, people and imaginative objects. As you work with the clay, have your say into the ongoing written story of the castle.

Join us at the Museum as we plan, design and build together. This activity requires a good eye for detail, cooperation, imagination and a bit of common sense! Take a walk through the exhibit Pillars of the Community and view a community and its buildings through the lens of time. Then working in groups you will help design and build a small-scale city, which includes buildings, roads, bridges, parks and more!
